It’s a compact modern bustling metropolis which attracts many easy-going and skilled workers from the region and adjacent areas. There are beautiful places where you can work, basically, it’s the historical part (city center). There’s a couple of skyscrapers in the city center. In the city center along Iset river one can see many new “glass” buildings – offices of large companies, banks and office buildings. The city is surrounded by commuter towns and new mass housing. A few words about the ecology. There are many reagents used in the city, so there’s a lot of dirt on the roads. But local urban services are trying to keep the city clean. The water is bad, especially hot running water. The air is contaminated too because of many cars and density.
Proximity to the sea: On summer weekends many people go to Chelyabinsk lakes, because there are no swimming lakes near the city.
Mostly neutral. Black people may attract attention, but nothing more. It is possible to hear foreign speech in the streets. There are also many minorities from our country that are also treated almost as foreigners.
Local people are very different. Some of them are always in a hurry, others are willing to help; some are rude, others apologize if they do something wrong.
Continental climate. Summers and winters are unpredictable, it is only possible to say that there won’t be snow in summer, and in winter it will probably snow. The snow melts at the beginning of May, and by the end of May it’s already warm enough to take off the jacket. It starts raining in September, and rains gradually freeze to snow.
There are many different universities, collleges, gymnasiums, elite schools.
It differs. If you are not satisfied with the quality of state hospitals, there is a good choice of private clinics.
There are linguistic centers for those who study Russian as foreign language.
Public transport includes buses, trolleys, minibuses, taxi, metro. The only line of metro goes from the north to the south of the city. All ground transport is very slow because of the traffic jams.
Travelling abroad: There’s an international airport Koltsovo.
There are some inexpensive retail chains. There are also very expensive products of high quality. There are plenty of entertainment opportunities. Cost of life is high because there are many temptations like eat out, order food delivery or visit a theater or a cinema.
Finding a job is easy. There are not so many job offers as in Moscow, but almost as much as in St. Petersburg. Many vacancies are available on popular web-sites. It’s very easy to find a job for an IT specialist because there are many Internet providers, mobile operators, hosting companies and software developers in the city. Even Yandex has its office here.
Housing is expensive – prices are just a bit lower than in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Of course there’s crime, but it’s not evident.

It is possible to find good connection for 350-400 RUR per month.
Trading sector is the leading one, so economic crisis affects the economy of the city.
