Overall impression

Great. Few immigrants and most of them are Caucasian and educated. A clean and cozy town. A great technical university is located in the city and holds 6th place nationwide for quality. Central London is 40 minutes away by commuter train.

Attitude to foreigners

Like in London.

Impression of local population

Well-mannered, cultured, friendly and keeping their distance like everywhere in England.

Like in London. Windy. Either spring or autumn.

Many primary and secondary.

Quality of medicine (quality and cost)

There is a hospital servicing the whole county and private doctors. Prices are like in London.

Language (learning of the local language and communication with the local people)

Language courses are available, the locals are taking it easy and are always glad if you speak to them in English.

Transport (road access, quality of roads, level of driving, gasoline cost, public transportation)

Public transportation is well-developed, roads are in perfect condition.

Prices (cost of living, food, entertainment)

Many stores in the town, Tesco is a cheap one. Some clubs, cinema. Should you wish for more – catch a train to London.

Job (search complexity, level of salary)

Salaries are a tad smaller than in London. Technical specialists, economists and lawyers can find jobs easily, others – not so much.

Housing (cost, availability, rent, purchase)

Average price per room is 400 per month. Purchase prices start at 250 thousand for a 2-bedrom house.

Almost none. It is almost unreal to be hit over the head even in the worst neighborhood.

Women \ men (for dating)

Bars, various events.

The region's economy (crisis, inflation)

Rapidly developing, headquarters of major companies often move to the town or nearby, many house construction projects. Roads are being developed. Prices remain at the same levels.
