Overall impression

A nice modern city. Very green with lots of parks. Only two cold months per year. Center of commerce. Large airports are nearby, so you can fly all over SE Asia quickly and easily.

Attitude to foreigners

Most are very friendly and always eager to help.

Impression of local population

Well, they are Chinese. Whether that is good or bad is for you to decide. We are speaking about a large modern city, so the citizens here are relatively cultured. You will see some visitors from the country, but they don’t do much harm. Idiots happen everywhere.

Subtropical climate. Summer lasts for 8 months of the year. Another 2 months the temperature is a comfortable 24-28 degrees and winter takes up the remaining 2 months. Winter means approximately 10-15 degrees with periodical warm spells up to 20 degrees above zero. Rainy seasons do happen, but usually mean just a constantly gray sky with rare but heavy rains. Not bad.

Every option is present. Lots of foreign kindergartens and schools. Conferences are held regularly, but it is better to speak Chinese.

Quality of medicine (quality and cost)

For every budget. Usually, an international alliance insurance (who work with large local hospitals) means that you will get decent help.

Language (learning of the local language and communication with the local people)

It is China. You can exist here without speaking Chinese, but knowing the local language and traditions will make your life noticeably easier. Learning them is also very interesting. China is very culturally diverse.

Transport (road access, quality of roads, level of driving, gasoline cost, public transportation)

Great! Roads are great all over the country but the highways have toll. Public transportation is very convenient. Multiple taxis everywhere and at all times. Buses work around the clock. Subway covers almost the entire city. Owning a car in the city is pointless, since you can get anywhere anytime using public transportation. Buying a car will mean getting an insurance, local license plate (hard to procure now) and, what is most important, a parking place. There is no free parking.

Prices (cost of living, food, entertainment)

Minimal expenses for one person – 500$ excluding entertainment. Comfortable living including entertainment in bars and clubs, gym – 1500$ monthly.

Job (search complexity, level of salary)

There are many Russian companies but most work in logistics or sales. Very few, but the several large companies have their own IT specialists. Foreign companies are the best option if looking for IT jobs. Therefore knowledge of English is a must. Knowledge of Chinese will get you additional points. There are several Chinese companies that hire foreign technical specialists with pleasure. Partly due to it still being cool, partly due to that they are learning from Western colleagues. And some Chinese companies are entering foreign markets and need specialists with knowledge of those markets. Salaries vary. I’ve seen 2000USD – 6000USD per month. Searching for a job is difficult, you need to know where and how to search.

Housing (cost, availability, rent, purchase)

Any and all options are available, starting at 200$.

It exists, but I haven’t seen any. Thefts happen, wallets and phones can be stolen. Little crime, when compared to other countries.

Women \ men (for dating)

Females of every race and country.

Internet access (availability, price)

1500 Yuan per year for 100Mbit/s.

The region's economy (crisis, inflation)

Huge amounts of money in the city and country.
