Bangkok
Overall impression

It is probably hard to say something new about Thailand, yet there isn’t a single review of Bangkok. The economy is growing steadily here now (as in all of Asia), thus many new workplaces, especially for IT professionals. PHP, .NET, Java, C# are in demand here (as is everything connected with mobile development). Other fields are also present.
There are many Russians here, but, I think, that it is only the beginning.

Chiang Mai
Overall impression

A large and developed city, nice and affordable accommodation options (best offers start at 6-month-long terms), many co-working spaces, a big community of programmers and designers from around the world. Professional meetings, TEDx, local start-ups.
Seaside: AirAsia will gladly take you to any place in Thailand or neighboring countries for 2000 baht. Chiang Mai is situated up in the mountains, so only condominiums with swimming pools and hot springs outside of the city are available here.

Absolute heaven. The most important thing is not to spoil the image of the new wave of downshifters.
Seaside: it is all around. That is one of the ideas of living on an island.
